Neighborhood -
history
The
area currently occupied by Snyder Park is one of the oldest parts of
Perry Hall. On the Baltimore County atlas of 1877, Snyder Lane is one
of only five major roads in the community (the others are modern-day
Belair, Joppa, Forge, Cross, and Chapel Roads). Joseph Snyder's house
is shown roughly halfway down modern-day Snyder Lane, on the eastern
side. His home and that of his son are the only dwellings shown. According
to the atlas, Joseph Snyder was a farmer who arrived from Germany in
1847. During the Nineteenth Century, our community was settled by waves
of immigrant families, mainly from Germany. That is why "Perry
Hall" is listed on old maps as "Germantown."

We
are hoping to gather input from neighbors about the history of our community.
If you have any stories about "the old" neighborhood
or old photos please pass them along (we will return them). We'd love
to share them with everyone. You can read more about the history of
Perry Hall at the Perry Hall Improvement Association's web
site.
